It seems that we are in favor of swastikas so far.

Perhaps because we know so much more about its origin? I remember feeling outraged when I was a devotee about his misuse of the symbol. I don't think he has the right to ruin a symbol that has such meaning to other people and I refuse to concede victory to him in this regard!

Exactly. This is why it needs to be reclaimed - along with learning the real history behind the symbol. Swastikas were even used in Jewish ornamentation. It is probably one of the most universal symbols known to humanity - and letting it be associated only with Hitler is a real tragedy.

One of the early skyscrapers built in Detroit in 1928 was the Penobscot Building, whose name derives from the Penobscot Indian tribe. This buildings façade is full of decorative Swastikas, high and low, which must have been a big topic of discussion during World War II, but luckily were never removed. They were just part of the Architects plan to use American Indian symbols and sculptures throughout the outside of the building. The photo here shows two of the Swastikas underneath the windows on either side of the American Indian sculpture relief that stand above the entrance to the building.

This symbol goes so far back in so many different cultures, that it is really a universal symbol co-opted by the Nazi’s much like the American flag is presently being co-opted by the political Neo-conservatives, who are running the USA into the ground.

My research shows the symbol appearing historically in such diverse places like, India, Tibet, Greece, Africa, Egypt, Gaza, Lapland, Paraguay, Asia Minor, Caucasus, Scandinavia, and North America!

So by all means, lets claim back the Swastika and then let’s try for the American Flag!!!
