Another HBO gem. It started one week ago here in Finland. First part looked vey promising. It did distantly remind me of Twin Peaks, although TP had humour and this not, so far.
Do you know this serie and how did you like it? whistling.gif

Yes, I know it very well. Used to be one of my favorites, especially since it was one of the first HBO shows filmed in High Definition wink.gif

You will not find much humor in it, but it will get quite philosophical. Dark at the same time.

I quite enjoyed it. Unfortunately I guess not too many people agreed with me, as the show got canceled after season 2.

You were right about Wired, so I take your word about Carnivale too.
Milla
I heard about it from a friend who loved it and promised me the DVD. She likes other HBO stuff too. Here in Belgium Rome started. It is very well done, and the subject is a favorite of mine.
zanardi
And what is that?
Stribor
Rome just starting here today.Carnivale is brilliant.
But still my favourite recently is Everybody loves Raymond.

From talk shows Conan O' Brien is absolutely best, better in this case than David Letterman and Jay Leno.

Rome? It's a show about Roman Empire at the time Cesar took the throne. All violence and sex included. And I get it all in High Definition (1080 scan lines). Really excellent wink.gif

I must be one of those people that Hates Raymond wink.gif Can't stand most of networks shows.

And yes Conan rules. He is supposed to replace Leno, after the latter retires.
zanardi
One of the best characters in Conan is Raymond. You know the one, who is there to help. I suppose Abhi is not adamantly against all the Raymonds of the world.

There is some sex and violence, but it is not self-indulgent. It's just reality. Visually, I am much more bothered by the Germanic features of the Romans (most actors are British).

Rome is coming here to Finland in a couple of months. It was good to hear from you how you received it. Saves valuable time. I want to see good programs, not just be hypnothized.

Yes, HBO is producing Rome in association with BBC. Thus most of actors are British, even though most filming is done in Italy. But I guess, in the end, Italian look is also not what Romans really looked like.
Milla
Yes, the Roman world was a multi-cultural one, but still. And to my knowledge there wasn't ever an Anglo-Saxon emperor. Also, the blond soldier who was sent to find the stolen golden eagle also played (quite well) Count Vronsky in a BBC production of Anna Karenina, so it will take me some episodes to get used to his new identity.

Another good series that came my way recently was Firefly. It's from 2001, I think. I don't remember who produced it, unfortunately only 14 episodes were made. A very good mixture of science fiction and Western, great music and song. It has some of the charm and feel of Star Wars. I read on Amazon that it has a steady and faithful following (the "brown-coaties"). It's a pity that it stopped.

It was a SciFi channel production. Yes, there were only 14 episodes of it, but they also came out with a movie, in September. Movie is called Serenity.
