Hi folks, I noticed tapati's signature, I aim to misbehave:Mal- firefly. I have the complete series on DVD, together with the film, and I love it. I have watched it many times, and wonder why on earth it was cut from production. It's better than Buffy, especially the final season, and miles better than Angel.

For those that do not know, the TV series, Firefly, was written, produced and directed mainly by Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy and Angel. It's a futuristic western style series, where remnants of the american and Chinese governments form an alliance, and try to weed out free thinkers. The language is english, with a few adaptaions to show is evolution, and Chinese swearing is common. It was cut from production after the first season, after bad marketing produced poor ratings, but in my opinion, it is one of the classiest series to be broadcast. A few years later, anotehr film company made Serenity for the big screen, which wraps up large parts of the series stories.

Anyone else seen this?

Yes, I have seen it. I have the whole series, and the movie.
A pity it is only one season.
It reminds me a little bit of Firefly, in style, but is much better.

I also loved Firefly. I also heard that new episodes were made and are already being broadcast on the cable; the series is renamed Serenity.

No, this hasn't happened, although Joss has a habit of taking his canceled series to comic book form and that may happen. A lot of people talk about wanting the series to resume on tv, or even in a series of direct to dvd productions. (scifiweekly.com is a good source of sci fi news)

The news central for Firefly lovers is http://www.browncoatsriseagain.com/

They have a campaign to try to get it back on the air, including where to write and steps one can take. While that seems less likely the more time that passes, a new Serenity DVD special edition is being released and as always, sales will help indicate to the Powers That Be what the level of interest is.
