It might if the focus was on the festival, but the way Jatayu introduces it, it should rather go to some Art section... I will see where to stuff it. Thanks, Oneiros!

The Art section is meant for art created by our members, not by others. So Agha-hanta's beautiful poster is hereby moved to the Miscellaneous Vaishnava Discussions.
A tips for those who contemplate starting topics: MVD may be a good place for a new topic that doesn't seem to fit anywhere else. Easy to remember --- it's all the way down on the main page.

GP would have been my 21st wedding anniversary...
Time flies when you're having fun
... In the 2nd floor lounge of 72 Commonwealth Ave. on Gaura Purnima ...
Vaishnava Priest: "Do you want to marry her?"
P.das "Yes."
VP: "Do you want to marry him?"
Me dasi "Yes"
VP: "Sign here."
And such was the complete ceremony of my totally transcendental wedding. (Where's that machine gun avatar Tapati?)

I have seen traditional weddings in ISKCON. Don't know much about the ritual itself, though.

What is a mangalsutra?

Oh!

Well it's something the husband ties around the bride's neck, and it has little black beads. Styles vary throughout different communities. In S. India I know the husband will tie three knots in the thread. The wife wears this unless and until her husband dies. This pic looks much like my mangalsutra.

I gave my wife a mangala sutra

. (She paid for it and picked it out though) She doesn't wear it much. I think it broke a little because it is of very soft gold.
I was told that the black beads represented Vishnu and the gold Laksmi. They are actually not always a part of north Indian weddings (where we were married), and if they are given, north Indian women don't wear them always like in the south.

At one time there was a little pomp and ceremony but with all the falldowns and divorces, (New Dvaraka for instance became known as New Divorcika) it came to be seen that it was offensive to offer these marriages to God for sanctity.

Beginning in mid-March ISKCON Mayapur will host pilgrims from all over India to celebrate Gaura Purnima, the birth anniversary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Sri Chaitanya’s message of love for God is especially expressed in sankirtan and sumptuous distribution of prasadam.
Thus, every year ISKCON Mayapur puts on a marathon effort to feed as many pilgrims as possible. Last year, more than 50,000 persons were fed with sumptuous, hot kitchuri on the Gaura Purnima day itself.
Throughout the day, over one hundred devotees and volunteers struggle to keep up with the demand. The pace is intense, but the joy we feel seeing the gratitude and satisfaction on thousands of faces is our greatest reward.
This year we expect nearly five lakh pilgrims for the two week long Gaura Purnima utsav. Many thousands of these pilgrims depend on ISKCON Mayapur for their meals, having scraped together just to come to Sri Mayapur.
On behalf of the hungry children, villagers and pilgrims who depend on Krishna prasadam we thank you for your generous participation in this Hare Krishna prasadam distribution program - Food For Life.

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu did not do much writing, but was widely renowned as a scholar in His youth. Nonetheless, He did leave these eight verses known as Sikshashtaka. These explain the essence of His mission and the philosophy of devotional service to Lord Krishna.
(1)
cheto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam
shreyah-kairava-chandrika-vitaranam vidya-vadhu-jivanam
anandambhdhi-vardhanam prati-padam purnamritasvadanam
sarvatma-snapanam param vijayate shri-krishna-sankirtanam
Glory to the Shri Krishna sankirtana (congregational chanting of the Lord's holy names), which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years and extinguishes the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death. That sankirtana movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge. It increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it enables us to fully taste the nectar for which we are always anxious.
(2)
namnam akari bahudha nija-sarva-shaktis
tatrarpita niyamitah smarane na kalaha
etadrishi tava kripa bhagavan mamapi
durdaivam idrisham ihajani nanuragahah
O my Lord, Your holy name alone can render all benediction to living beings, and thus You have hundreds and millions of names, like Krishna and Govinda. In these transcendental names, you have invested all Your transcendental energies. There are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names. O my Lord, out of kindness You enable us to easily approach you by Your holy names, but I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them.
(3)
trinad api sunicena
taror api sahishnuna
amanina manadena
kirtaniyah sada harihi
One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and should be ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly.
(4)
na dhanam na janam na sundarim
kavitam va jagad-isha kamaye
mama janmani janmanishvare
bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi
O almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor do I desire beautiful women, nor do I want any number of followers. I only want your causeless devotional service, birth after birth.
(5)
ayi nanda-tanuja kinkaram
patitam mam vishame bhavambudhau
kripaya tava pada-pankaja-
sthita-dhuli-sadrisham vichintaya
O son of Maharaja Nanda [Krishna], I am Your eternal servitor, yet somehow or other I have fallen into the ocean of birth and death. Please pick me up from this ocean of death and place me as one of the atoms at Your lotus feet.
(6)
nayanam galad-ashru-dharaya
vadanam gadgada-ruddhaya gira
pulakair nichitam vapuh kada
tava nama-grahane bhavishyati
O my Lord, when will my eyes be decorated with tears of love flowing constantly when I chant Your holy name? When will my voice choke up, and when will the hairs of my body stand on end at the recitation of Your name?
(7)
yugayitam nimeshena
chakshusha pravrishayitam
shunyayitam jagat sarvam
govinda-virahena me
O Govinda! Feeling Your separation, I am considering a moment to be like twelve years or more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain, and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence.
(8)
ashlishya va pada-ratam pinashtu mam
adarshanan marma-hatam karotu va
yatha tatha va vidadhatu lampato
mat-prana-nathas tu sa eva naparaha
I know no one but Krishna as my Lord, and He shall remain so even if He handles me roughly by His embrace or makes me brokenhearted by not being present before me. He is completely free to do anything and everything, for He is always my worshipful Lord, unconditionally.

Happy Gaura Purnima to all the assembled atheists, agnostics, vedantists, buddhists, christians, taoits, shaivaits, sakhibekhis, aulas and baulas - and all the rest of you too!
Let's celebrate the avadhuta's

younger brother's appearance, so very dear to him!

And if anybody now happens to see my Lord enter into a liquor shop - rest assure he is probably just trying to avoid all those muslim girls who are, of course, chasing after him for marriage. - After all, he just couldn't just marry them all! And the liquor shop may serve its purpose as a shelter for this most beautiful among the avadhutas.
On this day he is roaring loudly (that is - louder than usual).
He is dancing wildly, bubbling over with laughter - and his eyes are rolling in uncontrolably mad loving intoxication.

Indeed, you seem to be a recipient of Goddess Sarasvati's full blessings! How else could you understand these hidden implications? Yes, the tenderness or compassion (
kripA) of the guroo makes the dumb talk. They become swamis and talk lots and lots,
ity arthaH.

They preach to the lamers (
paGgu),
i.e. slow folks like you and me baby,
iti bhAvaH! And the lamers jump over the cliff,
i.e. they fearlessly traverse the obstacle which is the material attachment in the form of women, children, domestic animals and the rest. The implied meaning is: one gives all one's belongings to the dumb swamis who impelled one into doing so, and one joins the cult of Prabhu De.
