QUOTE (Advaitadas @ May 5 2004, 03:19 PM)
Swamis, Sadhus and Gurus have to be celibate, or put on a show of celibacy, which is almost as hard as being celibate itself
*

What does he mean by this!? I have, undoubtably, been perfectly celibate my whole life. And during the periods I was not, I faked it real well and without any difficulty what so ever!

Celibacy is easy - more easy than eating chocolate!

I do not like chocolate if it is too dark, or if it is too sweet - and the middle is never easy to find! Celibacy is on the other hand always enjoyable - whether you practice it, fake it or fail it. Celibacy is good - and always enjoyable!

I think celibacy should be advocated more; It is totally under-estimated. Whereas sexlife is certainly over-estimated, by almost everyone it seems...
Ayyapan
QUOTE (Jagat @ May 5 2004, 05:22 PM)
But I heard that a poll of women found that a large percentage prefered chocolate to sex.
*

Then I either say, like I guess any man would: "They just did not have sex with the right one yet! That's all!" And feel real smug.

Or I, secretly, ask them which chocolate...

In either case, I then - quickly - start to again advocate celibacy, better than both sex and chocolate.

I read this, and then I read who wrote the original quote, and I am puzzled. Why would he write a thing like that? He has been practicing raganuga manjari bhava for years.
Manjaris are celibate since they are pre-puberty. If you think yourself to be pre-puberty, celibacy is natural and comes easy.

Anyway, I find celibacy simple. Just as long as Krishna is not around. And since he is not around here, that is what makes it simple. Why would you even want to be uncelibate with anybody else?

The trick to live in the material world is to be celibate. Since when I think about uncelibacy, I think about Krishna, start to imagine myself embracing Krishna, kissing Krishna, and so on. And when doing that I feel all kind of transcendental emotions. And then I forget this world and everything that is important in it........... princess.gif
Prisni
Celibacy is good enough to deserve its own topic.
Ayyapan
Yes! Very good! Now, whenever I feel the extreme urge to talk about celibacy, I can go here - and do just that! Engross myself in celibate-talks, great! biggrin.gif
Dhyana
Ha ha. Happy that you are happy, Ayyapan. cheese.gif I split the topic off mostly because I envisioned us crow-like GR members seeing the Hridayananda topic being bumped up again, and eagerly surfing there to read the latest gossip... tongue.gif
Ayyapan
biggrin.gif Can we then establish that celibacy is not only better than sex and chocolate (combined or separate) - but even better than gossip!? Even better than the latest fall-down-sannyasi gossip, which is of course the best of gossip! biggrin.gif
ePiTau
Contrary to what the name of the parent thread suggests, celibacy is a material practice.

The "spiritual maturity" on which the success of the practice is often claimed to depend is a vapor quality that allows one to blame eventual failure and the absence of the promised beatific results––omniscience, eidetic memory, universal love, friendship and tranquility––on insufficient "spiritual maturity."
Ayyapan
Funny, Prisni says one ought to be pre-pubertal and ePiTau says one ought to be mature. Or did he? Did she?

I get totally confused!

Can we not, please, keep to referring to tangible objects like chocolate and sex, that I do comprehend - and leave puberty and maturity out of this sublime celibacy issue. cool.gif

Have you ingested too much chocolate, Ayyapan? EPiTau said nothing about "one ought to be mature." He hates oughts in general (perhaps outside of scientific research context) and I think he has an aversion to maturity, too... happy.gif

No, it is true - he did not. But he referred to those who most probably would have said it, if only they had the chance, which hopefully they won't - here. Let them say it elsewhere, if they can keep from saying it here!

I love the expression "ought to" - it is a passion I have! So if I see the least chance to say it (but only to say it of course!), I will grab that opportunity like the Lord grabs the conditioned soul by the hair to pull him elsewhere - or at least he ought to. Because there is certainly no need to grab anybody by the hair, if you do not have a splendid purpose!

Maturity, I - like ePiTau probably has too - have an aversion to. And such an aversion I find sound and healthy.

But together they make a splendid combination, I think: Ought to be mature - sounds real nice, to say.
Ayyapan
No, I did eat all too little chocolate! mad.gif

But when I grow up - then...

I will stay strictly celibate,

eat a lot of "middle" chocolate,

have a great deal of sex,

know all the latest gossip about all the doggy-like stick carriers,

and also say "ought to be mature" very often!

Chanahari
I debate the position that chocolate is better than celibacy. I tasted both. Celibacy is neutral, chocolate is positive. Chocolate represents Radha and Krishna due to its sweetness. Celibacy doesn't. tongue.gif
Ayyapan
"Chocolate represents Radha and Krsna" - could very well be, Chanahari! tongue.gif
I think I agree with you...
I am, namely, not really at ease with chocolate. I like it, basically. But hardly ever eat it, still. Like I do not really dare, maybe - or just don't have the habit, perhaps?

But liquorice... that must represent Balaram! Sweet and salty. Complex and totally irresistable!

Can we also agree that white chocolate represents svakiya ras? Whereas dark chocolate of course represents parakiya ras; The darker the more difficult to handle. I think really dark chocolate can be out right dangerous to eat, at least if you are a dog...

or peanut butter is better than orgasm or both together
Ayyapan
Well, babu, I don't really know. But at least peanut butter is better than chocolate - for dogs. But of course the best is some meat, always...
babu
yes, but those of sattvic consciousness wouldn't spread meat on their piano or organ and have a dog lick it off to dance and sing to the music. the obvious choice is to spread peanut butter on their organ

biggrin.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif

He ought to, but he seems busy doing other things... like grabbing by the hair some maidens who definitely do not need saving -- since they are eternally liberated, and stuff.

It seems to me that the chance of being grabbed by the hair by the Lord depends on quality and quantity of the hair... butterfly.gif
Ayyapan
biggrin.gif Yeah, and that is all the young womens fault. They ought to cover their hair - did they not learn this! - so that the good Lord can concentrate on his mission.

And, by they way, I think everybody needs savings and stuff - even the eternally liberated ones. Maybe particularly they, since it is a pretty long time they have in front of them.

Wow, I worship Radha and Krsna a lot more then I thought I did...hmm...perhaps dark chocolate represents the dark lord after all and I have some type of gopi sahajiya tendencies toward the Swiss Lindt sampradaya! w00t.gif

The cutting edge of Radha and Krsna worship in the Swiss Lindt tradition!

"It cuts through butter faster then sexual attraction!

Yeah, the Lindt sampradaya is indeed a bona fide representative of the worshipable Lord's and Lady's sweet rasas. innocent.gif worship.gif

On the licorice thing, I can't comment, for I have never been exposed to it. sad.gif
