by Hare Krsna das
Posted July 3, 2007
I am a pujari of Lord Jagannath. I have 20 years' experience of Deity worship. I have worked in Juhu Mumbai, Sri Radha Partha-sarathi Mandir and Hyderabad Temple as well as in many other temples of ISKCON. Presently i am in New York and staying with a godbrother. I am looking for Deity worship service in any U.S. temple, under the following conditions.
1.They will provide me a room, boarding, food, medical expenses and salary of at least $ 700 per month.
2.They will provide me a return air ticket to India once every six months.
If you are interested kindly contact me at my this e-mail: hkdas1@yahoo.com

I suppose getting paid to serve god might make me a Tru-Believer™.

Prabhupada said there should be a trade union for pujaris to negotiate with the guys way, way above them.

You know, the ones' that get to vote on who has No Objection when it comes to new club members.

It appears pretty profitable to be a hare krishna pujari nowadays.

They should be taken care of. It is very sad to see 'devotees' begging for a job.

I am surprised HKDas1 didn't mention anything about a fully maintained vehicle or a retirement fund.

Or are these little details left up to god?

I guess so. Something has to be left up to devotion and trust in God.

Another great employment opportunity is on the same Chaktra page - Live-In Secretary/Travelling Companion Wanted
Someone is wanted for secretary duty. You get free air-transport from anywhere in the word to Hawaii. You get free house and lodging plus a salary of $1200 per month, for only 30 hours of work per week. No experience is necessary, and you will receive training in the various tasks required. The employment then continues in India, with the same terms.

It sounds too god to be true.
And it is.
You have to be a girl between 18 and 25, and you have to apply with a photo of yourself.

The requirement "no experience" and followed by "will receive training", as applied to a young girl, with a male employer wanting a "companion" can be understood in another way than secretarial duty. Or maybe I am just naîve about what secretarial duty means?
And maybe "companion" means something else for those who have not seen Firefly?

700$ + food stamps + rent + heat + medicaid is what someone on welfare gets in this country

the plane tickets to india make this a little better than welfare

i hardly think this salary will make one rich

i think though all in all, this is a good wage for the godhead to pay his haberdasher

Naturally, there is an abundance of evidence that Prabhupada wanted all his devotees to draw a salary. Such as:

“So these things should be stopped, that they should live comfortably with husband and wife, children, and take salary from the... So you cannot violate this. Those who can give voluntary service, “Welcome.” Otherwise we don’t require. At least they should not be given any salary. That is very bad. This is against principle.” (Srila Prabhupada, Apr 28, 1977)

That's quite a lot. Here you get $450 + rent + heating + medicaid.

And the Yanks get kicked off the welfare rolls after five-years, don't they?

Disciples are the Gold Standard Retirement Fund.

Can't blame the peons for emulating the Reeely-Revoltees™.

There is always a catch when things sounds too good to be true.

The best retirement fund is renounciation. Get yourself a certified danda, and you have no economic problems anymore. You don't even need any qualification, except for being able to speak something and make others believe it. Like a sit down comedian.

It varies state to state. My daughter gets a little over that for herself and two children, it's a little over 400.00 in Iowa. Of course the cost of living varies widely too from state to state.
