QUOTE I remember hearing about Dhyana "standing up" and voicing her well founded and profound opinion of things in ISKCON. It was a pivotal moment in my career as a devotee. From her and also Marie Ekstrand I got the courage to fully break out of my cocoon. We have a saying here in Finland: Ladies first, even on to the thin ice!". So I have to admit it, and I do it without shame, I just followed in their slipstream. Peace and respect to ya all! Om shanti, shaaanti, shaaaantihi! Thank you for the appreciation, zanardi. The funny thing, though, was that when writing my heretical texts, I had no idea they would cause such a hullabaloo. So it didn't require that much courage. Or, one could perhaps say that when it comes to our ability to make certain decisive steps, ignorance and courage are interchangeable. I am really sorry I do not know Finnish. I would love to read your book! I am impressed that you managed to pull it through, complete the thing and get it published. Many of us have began writing memories of some sort or another, but rare is the soul who completes the undertaking! Or maybe you actually believed that such well worded, almost truistic statements would be politely received and start a true discussion, leading to an proper reform? Idealism! Probably that was your mind-set and goal. Some of us felt that you had courage and some of us thought that you were ultimately ignorant in trancendental matters. What I think is funny is that those who chose the second alternative were afraid. Because of that they also chose to fry you out. They were caught up in their own atmosphere of fear. So, to me your "ignorance" was bliss. -------------------- It is healthy to react in a relevant way to the facts of life.

Congratulations, Zanardi! Blessed are those endowed with the ability to write. May your book become a bestseller. There are some good books by ex-cult members out there, but as far as I know none has really struck a nerve and reached the masses. It's time that something like this happened because many more people have gone and go through what we have gone through than is commonly assumed.

In as much as ISKCON was different than anything else most of the people have experienced in their life, so was it also the same. The particular atmosphere in a sect just made everything more visible. That is one of the reasons I think most of us are pretty much immune to all kinds of sectarean influences. We smell rat immediately when somebody tries to play pingpong with our mind or brain. -------------------- It is healthy to react in a relevant way to the facts of life.

I ran into this discussion of whether or not the Hare Krsna movement is positive, negative, cult like, a real religion, etc.

QUOTE (Tapati @ Oct 20 2005, 11:08 PM) I ran into this discussion of whether or not the Hare Krsna movement is positive, negative, cult like, a real religion, etc. http://www.factnet.org/discus/messages/3/1...html?1128623527 Tapati, you seem to have an endless reservoir of different sites where to surf! This site was a little tiresome, though. My book has a different kind of approach. I use ISKCON as an example of a sect not because it stands out from the others, but because that is the organization I was personally involved with. I try to dig deep into the Bermuda triangle of existential anxiety, fruitive mentality and the resulting isms. Religious organizations are good and vivid examples of the above mentioned, but nobody is entirely free of their influence, therefore GV is ultimately not the centre of my book. The centre is our cosmic situation, uncertainty and how to deal with it. -------------------- It is healthy to react in a relevant way to the facts of life.

Wish me luck. Tomorrow I have to be on TV1 to discuss my book on a cultureprogram together with some other authors. I am nervous. What if...?

Phew! Thank you for your good wishes. I just came back. It was a nice discussion and the whole program lasted almost one hour. They interviewed me first and presented my book. Yey capitalism! After that the other three persons who were in the "show" were shortly interviewed and then we had a group discussion with the two ladies who were the hosts. The main focus was intended to be about insecurity, existential anxiety, religions role in that and so on. Naturally the discussion went little here and there but all in all I suppose it will be a good program. At the moment I am not capable to explain much more. Too tired. Now I have to consider how to relax. Do I follow Babu prabhus advice or do as Madam Milla proposed? Or maybe I will just take some bentsodiatzepin and play with my PlayStation? Now I know. I do all three!

OK. Now I saw the whole program. With all modesty I have to confess that it went really well. What a relief! Back in the old days of active GV it was in a way easier to be on TV because you were not really that much interested about the other persons in the program. Then you had your worn out PR in your mouth and when that was pushed out you felt that it went well. This was something else, a real discussion with other persons. I know it sounds corny but you all know what I mean. I got very good feedback and my book was presented on several occasions. Thank you for your support, peace and respect.
