I am fascinated by Vaishnava fiction.

Just finished readying Divakaruni's Palace of Illusions. It is the Mahabharata told from Draupadi's point of view

I am currently reading Cuckold. It is the story of Mirabai. It is written excellently.

Was curious if anyone read either of these or was interested in Vaishnava fiction?

Never thought of Mirabai as fiction. Didn't she kick one of the six goswamis butt?

You're right. I guess it is historical/biographical fiction...sort of like what the Prabhupada Lilamrta is.

I read most of Jaiva Dharma, the NM version. A lot of NM's work drives me crazy (I should really never read at all), but I have an easier time with it since he tends not to use "Supreme Personality of Godhead" 5 times in one paragraph. I really find that term to be impersonal, because it is really the same as "God" with an agenda about his position/post tied to it. Though I understand there was a very good reason for it once. daisy.gif

I have never heard of Vaisnava 'fiction', but I am fascinated by the idea. I have sometimes thought about stories from a certain individual's point of view, so that book using Draupadi's POV sounds like a good read!

Jaiva dharma is a great example of Vaishnava fiction. It is a philosophical dialogue between individuals. It is very clever how Bhaktivinode Thakur has written it.

It is almost like his strategy is "If you can't beat them, join them." Bhaktivinode Thakur comes upon different places where there is opposition to Vaishnavism. But instead of philosophically fighting with them, he just ascribes them to a pseudo form of Vaishnavism. I noticed that he takes this approach with Islam and Devi-worship, in Jaiva dharma.
