The Moscow Subway is rather special also:

Wow, how palatial!!! Looks more like the place the Czar and family used to hang before the revolution. Unusual subway by all means, but pretty none the less.

The London Subway system has character though, based on the picture, it seems like a cleaned up version of New York City. The Stockholm system seems pretty contemporary.

The Washington DC system was started in the mid 70's and is still being expanded today. Here a photo of a typical looking station.

That is a fine pic, Kalisurfer! I am looking forward to add some shots from Hamburg, Berlin and Warszawa soon. Dhy and I will be traveling from May 8 to 27.

I can't wait to see the photo results from these destinations. I have always wondered what percentage of older buildings still exist in these cities that survived the War that were not totally rebuilt? None the less, so much there to see and capture via the camera you and Dhy have. Great urban graffiti cities too!

Wow Gerard, thanks for the pic, it's wonderful and brings nostalgic memories. The Moscow subway is a giant. 14 years ago, when we lived there, Moscow had 9 million inhabitants and they made 15 million metro trips every day. Rivers and rivers of people flowing through those broad platforms, broad stairs and fast escalators. The scale is staggering, compared to the Stockholm subway. Stockholm has 1 million inhabitants. The whole of Sweden has 9 million.

Some stations were palatial, in the style of what you posted. Others were more like museums of Communist art, with larger than life paintings and mosaics of brave Komsomol youths. Yet others were huge halls with wind blowing through, bare, with plain pillars. No matter the style, one could never just stop and look, the crowd would carry you through.

As always, thank you for the kind words, Kali. As I have said many times, they mean a great deal coming from someone as incredibly creative and talented as you are.

Shouldn't there be a "no lurkers" (log-in required) place for a thread like "Views of where we work"?

Sorry if a similar question was already posted here, I've viewed some of the replies but not all of them.

It's a good idea, ras. I can create such a thread. At the same time, login doesn't make a thread completely inaccessible to lurkers. Any lurker who takes the trouble of creating a member account can view the topic. One would still have to be aware of that when posting images that might help identify your exact location.

Well, it seems like "Views of where we work" is really in the same category as "Views of where we live" in the Our Stories forum. It should be moved to that forum. It's not really about networking, it's more a "my story" thread.

I know that there are stalkers and lurkers that go to great lengths to snoop on people and there's no real "safe" place. But for generally keeping a low profile, I think it should be moved to "Our Stories".

Saturday I bought the Panasonic Lumix LX3 compact, so today I took some pictures en route to work and there. I used the16:9 ratio, it also has 3:2 and 4:3.

On the right the Rijksmuseum (National Art Gallery, since 2003 in renovation, scheduled to re-open in 2013), in the middle the Van Gogh Museum and on the left the Stedelijk Museum (City Museum, also being renovated, scheduled to open some time in the future), if you turn 180° you see the Concert Hall:

Nice photos, Gerard. The LX3 is a fine little camera. Many pics I posted here are done with it (like the two just above your post).

The Lumix LX3 takes great photos from the look of what both you and eP have taken with it. Having a Leica lens with F2.0 24mm wide angle capability is icing on the cake of a very worthy buy.

The museum pictures make my bones rattle with visual hunger toward viewing some good art, and what a wonderful place to do such things. Thanks for sharing! Bhakti was there in 1980 for a few days visiting the museums and concert hall, but after seeing your photos, was rather amazed on how much things have changed with time, (or could that be just memory) though she said that the concert hall looks very much as she remembers it.

What do you do at the day care center Gerard? The coffee and chocolates makes me think I may enjoy an hour or two at the place myself, though the commute may be a problem. drive.gif
