Two weeks or so ago, famed ultra-critical movie critic Roger Ebert said: "When Martin Scorsese shoots a film in 3D, movies as we know them will be dead."
Today, movies as we know them are dead: Scorcese sells out. -------------------- "I know not how I may seem to others, but to myself I am but a small child wandering the vast shores of knowledge, every now and then finding a small pebble to content myself with." ~~ Plato

"Steal a broad's mind in 3 or 4 minutes . . it aint how long you talk, but what you put in it."
- Shorty The Pimp (1973) ------------------------------------- I just found this cool site Separate Cinema where you can catch old movie posters and a snippet of info about the film. I enjoyed looking through the blaxploitation category! -------------------- "I know not how I may seem to others, but to myself I am but a small child wandering the vast shores of knowledge, every now and then finding a small pebble to content myself with." ~~ Plato

This bit of dialog from Singin' In The Rain has a special meaning to me:
Cosmo Brown: Talking pictures, that means I'm out of a job. At last I can start suffering and write that symphony. R.F. Simpson: You're not out of job, we're putting you in as head of our new music department. Cosmo Brown: Oh, thanks, R.F.! At last I can stop suffering and write that symphony. From The Big Sleep: Vivian: I don't like your manners. Marlowe: And I'm not crazy about yours. I didn't ask to see you. I don't mind if you don't like my manners, I don't like them myself. They are pretty bad. I grieve over them on long winter evenings. I don't mind your ritzing me drinking your lunch out of a bottle. But don't waste your time trying to cross-examine me. Carmen Sternwood: You're cute. I like you. Philip Marlowe: Yeah, what you sees nothing, I got a Balinese dancing girl tattooed across my chest. Vivian: You go too far, Marlowe. Marlowe: Those are harsh words to throw at a man, especially when he's walking out of your bedroom. Vivian: Speaking of horses, I like to play them myself. But I like to see them workout a little first, see if they're front runners or comefrom behind, find out what their whole card is, what makes them run. Marlowe: Find out mine? Vivian: I think so. Marlowe: Go ahead. Vivian: I'd say you don't like to be rated. You like to get out in front, open up a little lead, take a little breather in the backstretch, and then come home free. Marlowe: You don't like to be rated yourself. Vivian: I haven't met anyone yet that can do it. Any suggestions? Marlowe: Well, I can't tell till I've seen you over a distance of ground. You've got a touch of class, but I don't know how, how far you can go. Vivian: A lot depends on who's in the saddle. Eddie Mars: Convenient, the door being open when you didn't have a key, eh? Philip Marlowe: Yeah, wasn't it. By the way, how'd you happen to have one? Eddie Mars: Is that any of your business? Philip Marlowe: I could make it my business. Eddie Mars: I could make your business mine. Philip Marlowe: Oh, you wouldn't like it. The pay's too small. From True Grit (with John Wayne): Rooster Cogburn: [cocks his gun] Mr. Rat... I have a writ here says you're to stop eating Chen Lee's cornmeal forthwith. Now it's a rat writ, writ for a rat, and this is lawful service of the same. See? Doesn't pay any attention to me. [shoots the rat] Chen Lee: [runs into the room] Outside is place for shooting! Rooster Cogburn: I'm serving some papers. |

Today, movies as we know them are dead: Scorcese sells out. That is sad, at least it's a movie for kids. I hope like hell DeNiro never acts in a 3D movie- it bugs me enough that he's in comedies. I've had Avatar for years now I finally watched it last week. |
