Thank you, Madhava, for starting this topic!

Bright Blessings to everyone here at GR (and our faithful guests, whatever their belief systems) for this New Year. I wish you all love, health, abundance, and joy on your path.

Happy New Year! bomb.gif

Here is a New Years Anthem mp3. It's a recursive trigonometric function feeding its first 300 (of an infinite number of values) to a MIDI synth and stuff.

Attached File  fun58.mp3 ( 564.22K ) Number of downloads: 178

nice, let me know if there is a longer version to relax into a hypotic groove

Sure will, babu!

I had been experimenting with these things for some time. While TP in Moscow, in my spare time, I used to program some functions on my HP calculator which had a tone (beep) generator in it. Later, after learning how to convert math functions into MIDI files I started to play things through software synths. I had never found the time to patch it into real output. Only small phrases, here and there, and then moving on to test other hypotheses. Today I caught myself starting research on algorithms that could produce worthwhile rhythms. I realized that if I continued like that I would never get anything out. So I decided to get back to my original formulas and just patch them straight to MIDI, without frills and without any additional "human intervention." The piece is not arranged or composed or manipulated. It is the raw output of a single, short, but insane, function.

I would of course like to refine it and turn it into something that is more suitable for human consumption. A longer version is no problem at all. Will send you a download link next year! bomb.gif

Cheers!! beerchug.gif banana.gif

Ep, this may be one the finest aural investigations into the methodology that seems suitable for the synthesis of stable linear digital recursive filter that actually becomes physically realized into sound vibrations that a human or even a dog can take part in!!!!

It’s almost holy in that New Years Day kind of way that says sidewalks, coffee grinders, Willaim Blake and kielbasa can be holy. Impressive stuff and I agree with Babu, it would be really interesting to see what directions this would take in a longer version.

This inspired me to take a look into my photo archives to find a visual representation of anything that came close to representing slight degree’s of corresponding difference equations that would be twice the degree of the denominator of rational trigonometric polynomial’s…but sad to say, I came up short.

This is the best I could do.

I felt like doing this crummy code job right at the end of the year was like an attempt kicking myself in my lazy butt to sort of set some favorable initial conditions for the coming rest of the years. Thanks, Kali, for the comments. Your pic (is it asphalt?) is suggestive and perspective and might lend itself to be transformed into sound too. I have a program that does bitmap to wav/MIDI conversions.

And Angrezi, yes, I missed that oil thing while in Moscow. I remember once, I hung out with Sannyas dasa, and he asked me to make a phone call on a non-reg. mobile phone posing as a foreign investor interested in buying GasProm shares. He insisted I do this call for him because he new the info I had to try to get from the guys would only be given to an authentic foreign caller. He could not fake it himself with his Armenian/Russian language profile.
But even he, as shrewd as he might have been with moola and do do, has no leggy babes and copters and stuff. In fact, all he does, I am told by informed sources, is feeding ducks with his sweetheart, considering it an act of welfare to the planet. OM yes3.gif

Happy New Year to all my GR acquaintances!

And now for a traditional New Years Song

Words adapated from a traditional song
by Rabbie Burns (1759-96)

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit,
Sin auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne

Meanings

auld lang syne - times gone by
be - pay for
braes - hills
braid - broad
burn - stream
dine - dinner time
fiere - friend
fit - foot
gowans - daisies
guid-willie waught - goodwill drink
monie - many
morning sun - noon
paidl't - paddled butterfly.gif
pint-stowp - pint tankard
pou'd - pulled
twa - two

WOW. Took me a while to figure out just what this might be in our universe (as opposed to the visual wonder this is in the parallel universe inhabited by you, Kalisurfer...)

Let's see what I can come up with to celebrate the New Year...

What about those who may not have had the oppurtunity or courage to do so on New Years Eve - but who solemnly promised to do so during the coming year... don't you give them your unlimited blessings?
