QUOTE (Emma @ Oct 31 2006, 09:02 PM)
Life is too short. Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness. Laugh when you can. Apologize when you should. Let go of what you can't change. Love deeply. Forgive quickly. Take chances. Give everything. Have no regrets. Life is too short to be unhappy. You have to take the good with the bad. Smile when your sad. Love what you got. Always remember what you had. Always forgive but never forget. Learn from your mistakes. But never regret. People change and things go wrong. But always remember LIFE GOES ON

It might be added that individuals with Tourette's not uncommonly display a fascination with defiance and rebellion... all but the most original and creative ones among them, that is. [hint hint]

Kali, based on your diagnosis, what is your prognosis of babu's ability to stop using the word stupid, if he wanted to? At this stage it's probably too hard for him yet to control himself for longer than a few hours, wouldn't you agree? whistling.gif

Wow, I did not realize this connection but now this is all making a lot of sense, (as I wash my hands with micro-organisim killing gel over and over and over and over again). w00t.gif

Dhyana, I do think the prognosis for Babu is looking good in terms of controlling his spontaneous utterance of socially objectionable and taboo words such as “Stupid,” for he is aware of his premonitory urge, much like we are of coughing and sneezing. It’s actually good that he is not suppressing his urges, for that buildup would prove too stressful for Mabu at home ( “This spaghetti is Stupid”..." Did you fill up the car with some Stupid gas?”... "Where are my Stupid saffron sox, and why aren’t the Stupid things ironed!”... “Oh look Hon, the Stupid president is on TV again”... “ Hare Stupid, Stupid Stupid, Hare Hare!” etc, etc….) so the occasional consciously chosen need to release his phrase tic online is actually healthy…though new members may have problems understanding it all out of context. innocent.gif

"Against human stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain." Schiller

Isaac Asimov once wrote an essay called "Superstupidity" in which he explained that just because his IQ was in the high genius range (I forget, close to 200) didn't mean that he was immune to doing stupid things. He gave some spectacular examples of his stupidity that were really funny though I can't remember them now, 30 years later.

We all do stupid things from time to time but it doesn't mean that we are stupid. We can hope that others will tolerate our lapses in judgment as we endeavor to tolerate theirs.

"We have fallen into the place where everything is music." --Rumi

he said change the channel/i've got problems of my own/i'm so sick of hearing about drugs/and aids/and people without homes/and i said, well,/i'd like to sympathize with that/but if you/don't understand/then how can you act

I was once called "stunad" (meaning stupid) by an Italian friend of mine. At that time I thought I was being made an honorary Italian.

Sure enough, as another Italian told me, "[the name] stunad is the best".

There's that fairly well-known quote from Albert Einstein

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the Universe."

Aldous Huxley:
At least two thirds of our miseries spring from human stupidity, human malice and those great motivators and justifiers of malice and stupidity, idealism, dogmatism and proselytizing zeal on behalf of religious or political idols.

Bill Cosby:
A word to the wise ain't necessary, it's the stupid ones who need the advice.

Ralph Waldo Emerson:
It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.

It was an inventor who said, "Creativity is the sudden cessation of stupidity", but we can see with our own eyes that one can be stupid even in a very creative way.
