I knew these devotees
in 84-85 in NC. I remember me and Jai das or maybe it was Jaya das had to drive a farm tractor from ny to nc. I always wondered why we didn't just rent a trailer? I would have saved the tractor's engine and not taken days to do so. Gopi Das was involved in translating some of Prabhupad's books. I was just wondering if anyone knew them or where they are now. Great forum you have here. I'm really enjoying reading all the different posts. |

Gopi das -- you don't mean Gopiparanadhana das, who is a Sanskrit scholar?

no, don't know them. yeah, not too smart driving a tractor so far. Prabhupada would have (did) recommend that we pull all tractors with Oxen.

QUOTE (Dhyana @ Sep 15 2007, 02:09 PM) Gopi das -- you don't mean Gopiparanadhana das, who is a Sanskrit scholar? Sounds right. He was a lovely fellow. Very friendly and humble. I remember my guru asking him for advice during lectures. I can't find his pic on the net. I remember he was heavy and wore glasses. I guess he's in India now. Gopiparanadhana Dasa is a scholar of Sanskrit and a practising ISKCON devotee. Born in 1950 in New York City, he received his BA in linguistics from Columbia University in 1972 and was initiated by Srila Prabhupada in 1973. Under Srila Prabhupada's guidance, Gopiparanadhana developed an expertise in Sanskrit and served as an editor for the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT). After Srila Prabhupada passed away Gopiparanadhana helped complete Srimad-Bhagavatam, Mukunda-mala-stotra and Narada-bhakti-sutra. He continues to translate Gaudiya Vaisnava literature from Sanskrit, as well as training editors and translators for the BBT and working on the BBT production of Sri Brhad-bhagavatamrta. He lives in India with his wife, his five-year-old son, and two cows. QUOTE (metamorphosis @ Sep 15 2007, 04:44 PM) no, don't know them. yeah, not too smart driving a tractor so far. Prabhupada would have (did) recommend that we pull all tractors with Oxen. I'll admit after a few days I wussed out and took a bus home. Leaving poor Jai Das alone. The tractor was donated. Just seemed silly to drive back at 15 mph. |

He is probably in India. last I heard of him he lived somewhere near Govardhana. He and his first wife divorced; around 1995 he married a Ukrainian BBT devotee Arca-murti dasi. They have a son.
