This past week for the first time in its history, the US Congress opened a session with a Hindu prayer, which immediately grew complaints from fundamentalist Christian groups in the good old one true God loving USA. His prayer was stopped by hecklers in the public gallery. I read today in the Washington Post, that ISKCON and other Hindu organizations have released a press release condemning the heckling and the fact that no congressman has spoken or apologized to the Hindu community for the outburst and the negative publicity it has garnered in the Press and from Christian groups.

From the comments on the above news article

THOMAS PAINE
"Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifiying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity."

"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my church."
--from Paine's book, "The Age of Reason"

Which brings to mind John Lennon's GOD

God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain
I'll say it again
God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain

I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-Ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in yoga
I don't believe in kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me
Yoko and me
And that's reality

The dream is over
What can I say?
The dream is over
Yesterday
I was the dreamweaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
And so dear friends
You just have to carry on
The dream is over
