I'm not sure that this topic is the right place to quote my musings, Darwin.
On the other hand, yes... the fallout of the Topical Discussions snafu was as delectably decadent as that 64-preparation GBC lunch I ate during the Mayapur festival in 1994. Burp. -------------------- Yes, I have a pair of wooden shoes. No, I don't wear them. They are women's size and have heels.

Improvement is an uphill battle when seen as an unauthorized change of orthodoxy. Within this orthodoxy lurk the reasons that make up the incline; and the higher you climb the steeper it gets. At the summit you'll find the opposition to change staring right at you from every purport and every conversation elevated to the level of divine revelation. --Maryada on his website Maryada website info (taken off here) Hey Darwin, it's not cool to post members personal websites without their consent, I don't know if this is a problem or issue for Maryada, but as a former Moderator here, I do know in the GR code of conduct it is stipulated that members do not have to give any personal information other than the city they live in, and that revealing a legal name is not required, so it seems you have breached that for another member. I don't know your relationship with Marayada and how he feels about this, but this could be a problem in securing personal information and confidentiality and sends a strange message to new member or returning members that they will be outed once coming here. -------------------- "It's not how many times you draw breath that counts in a lifetime, but how many time something takes your breath away."

Hey Darwin, it's not cool.. No, not this time. I am not going to put up with any more abuse from you. Maryada linked directly to his website and I was having a great time reading and sharing his wonderful writing in the spirit of Steven Gelberg. If he does not want it here that is fine and he or whomever can let me know. But don't you dare insult and abuse me. I had to put up with abuse when you people were low level bosses in ISKCON and I am not any longer going to be some whipping boy for your ongoing ex cult member mental breakdown process or whatever it is you do here. I have watched you former forum controllers to drive away every person who posts here with your passive aggressive phony sensitivity. Last time you attacked me like this a few months ago it ended with you being fired as moderator or resigning or whatever. What is so bizarre is that I alone have stood up against the new regime here and I wanted you to remain as a moderator and still do. -------------------- Visit darwin on Twitter, Boston Poverty Law

Last time you attacked me like this a few months ago it ended with you being fired as moderator or resigning or whatever. What is so bizarre is that I alone have stood up against the new regime here and I wanted you to remain as a moderator and still do. I was never a leader in ISKCON, am not a leader here, and I was not abusing or insulting you, just pointing something out that could be problematic to other members. Perhaps Maryada is OK with this and if so , then this is all a mute point. Actually, I'm tired of being your whipping boy by various accusations being delivered toward me over the years Darwin, it just makes no sense and based on no real problems existing here, but simply personal angst and anger that gets thrown at people you deem authoritarian. If anything, it is these type of immature hissy fits that has driven many people away over the years, and I am about one hair length away of leaving this forum myself if this is where the community is going. There has never been a regime of authoritarians here, and there is no authoritarian regime in place now, it's all just a ploy by you to stir things up and make a scene. You can be a creative genius and funny when you want to be, but this drama your creating now is historically periodic and almost expected every so often, but a huge drag to have to read and be a part of. -------------------- "It's not how many times you draw breath that counts in a lifetime, but how many time something takes your breath away."

I have only confronted you when you have attacked me. And don't you dare blame me for what you people have done to this forum. I have stood back and not interfered and have not participated so I don't have people lie and say it is my fault. Actually a lot of people have not wanted to participate here because of the passive aggressive phony sensitivity and blaming people for driving others away. If they can make you moderator again and you want to participate and create something here, I am willing to leave for like six months to let you try it out without me to blame. I was not involved with much of the discord here. And you didn't even stand up for Dave and Tapati so I don't see why you need to come and insult and attack me here for no real reason. And the fact is you were all totally outranking me in ISKCON and that this forum has always been a direct line of ISKCON authority created and run by low level ISKCON bosses. I was on drugs the whole time I was in ISKCON. And the sex. And I never read the books. Or the ISKCON inspired forum guidelines here.

cat·a·lyst [kat-l-ist] noun 1. Chemistry . a substance that causes or accelerates a chemical reaction without itself being affected. 2. something that causes activity between two or more persons or forces without itself being affected. 3. a person or thing that precipitates an event or change: His imprisonment by the government served as the catalyst that helped transform social unrest into revolution. 4. a person whose talk, enthusiasm, or energy causes others to be more friendly, enthusiastic, or energetic. I would love to move from the somewhat negative influence of no. 2 to a more positive influence of no. 4. This topic is to welcome new members. I'm an old new member just wanting to say hi again in the only forum I can post in. I understand both Darwin's impulse of enthusiasm in posting what he did and Kalisurfers optimistic caution. I have seen these played out in my own life by me and myself (Gemini, you know...). Those who know me from my annual stint here around the middle of the last decade, also know that I have no particular qualms any longer about my identity. So please, let that not be a source of quarrel, which may set a bad tone for other newcomers. My only concern was that this welcome topic may not be the right place for laying out my life. Peace. -------------------- Yes, I have a pair of wooden shoes. No, I don't wear them. They are women's size and have heels.

Thanks for clarifying this for me, as my only concern was for your confidentiality and the message it sends out to other people who join and find this being their first thread to post in. I've been to your site and really like what I read, your ISKCON history is rich and I like the narrative way it was presented. I look forward to your creative contribution here and taking part in it if possible. -------------------- "It's not how many times you draw breath that counts in a lifetime, but how many time something takes your breath away."

Yeh Maryada. You said that you are stuck and can't post anywhere else so I put it here. The moderators can then move it. Kalisurfer is supposed to be a moderator and I wish he was still was so he could do this. Your writing is very good and some pieces are great. And your point of view is indispensably original. At the same time as all this, I am trying to invite Kalisurfer to visit the protests here in Boston. I urge you and every other newcomer here to just step up and start speaking your mind like you own the place. We need adults here.

The moderators can then move it. Kalisurfer is supposed to be a moderator and I wish he was still was so he could do this. I am not a moderator at this time, nor will I be a moderator in the future, but Brainiac and Prisni are. (Which by the way, they are doing a fine job.) -------------------- "It's not how many times you draw breath that counts in a lifetime, but how many time something takes your breath away."

Cool down a little bit Darwin. If Maryada brings up something, you can comment on it, but what happened in the past is in the past. There is always a chance of coming back to GR and having changed your mind.
Your texts are made invisible Actually, it is kind of a tradition to change your mind and even your direction in life while on GR, and quite some persons have. So just wait and see what Maryada says now. If Maryada only can post here, the protection system on GR is kind of screwed up. Maybe everyone is a full member, and you can't post anywhere unless you are. Those from the past maybe can enlight me on that. Maryada, hold on, while glitches are sorted out. |

After validation a person becomes a Member. Mods or admins then have to manually upgrade the Member to Full Member. Dig a little in the Admin CP and see how it's done. I think as mod or admin you can just click on a member's name and get a dialogue where you can select edit member's profile, click that and upgrade.

I know how but not why. There is a whole bunch of people who are just "members".
I thought "full members" meant active members, and it gives a few extra features, but now it looks like members can't post anything, which makes the category pretty useless. Or? So I see two alternatives: 1) Give posting rights everywhere to "members" or 2) Make everyone into "full members" immediately. |

So I see two alternatives: 1) Give posting rights everywhere to "members" or 2) Make everyone into "full members" immediately. There was a period in the beginnings of GR when newly registered Members had some posting privileges. It resulted in a load of garbage being posted by spambots who managed to create accounts. The privileges to be removed and only this one thread was kept open. There are still some non-humans managing to register (I see it by their names). All do not try to post, they are content with having advertising links in their member profiles. But an occasional one might try. There was another reason, too, for not allowing newly registered Members to post everywhere right away: trolls and other crazy types. Anyway, all of this has nothing to do with Maryada, who we know personally and he has been here before and the forum got richer for it. Maryada for Full Member Now! :-) -------------------- Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler. (Einstein)

Everyone who update their bio describing how they at some time practiced Vaisnavism gets full membership status immediately.
Or alternativily, write a letter to me or Brainiac describing it, for those who want to be more anonymous. No actually, I think we both should know who it is. This board does not like personal attacks, even if someone feel them justified. |
