SDG just published on his website a poem about how the King Kong could be a Hare Krishna, or something like that, funny stuff, but i can't find the thread for satsvarupa. i searched as satsvarupa got nothing, searched sdg and sdg writes, which is the way that it appears on his page, nothing!

What's up w/that? The Hare Krishna King Kong

Hi Meta,

Was there ever a thread here for the writings of SDG? I know that there were 2 for his artwork.

I would love to talk about his unconventional writings, but there seems a price you have to pay, something I learned after getting shot down passionately by a few members here saying that I like his art. Based on that experience, I wonder if it is even worth the attempt to talk about liking his writings? Not to mention… I also noticed a lack of response to my postings ever since letting out that I like his art and his unique style....hhmmmm…personal paranoidial conspiracy theory #39: you are allowed to be an anarchistic vaisnava just as long as you don’t say you like SDG…then you become a pariah to the anti status quo!

Not to many devotees much less Sannyasi’s would write about King Kong, Fay Wray, Yankee Stadium, Srimad-Bhagavatam, machineguns, Superman, Christ, Prabhupada and Vrndavan on the same page. Which is why the fundies and those with conservative tastes (and even those who do not even consider themselves devotees anymore) dislike him so much, for he does not fit the needed pattern of perfection bestowed upon what are supposed to be ideal godmen. This kind of stuff fits into the belief system that anyone this far-out must be a fallen lunatic.

Must be why I love the full moon, especially when it descends into the deep dark night as the fallen full moon!

Dynamics on boards such as this are an amazing thing. I myself quickly get confused when I send a post that I consider important or really good in some way -- and get no response, or only tangential responses that ignore the points I wish to share.

There is no conspiracy, I am quite sure of that! Also quite sure that there is no "pariah label" behind the scarcity of responses that you are perceiving.

One thing that I can imagine comes into play would be a reluctance to, on the one hand, comment freely and trigger yet another round of passionate discussion, with the risk of hurting one another's feelings... and, on the other hand, the reluctance to mentally censor one's comments as to keep them smooth and safe.

I don't think I personally do it when considering responding to you. But I can think of some other members, or other topics, where I do. One example: Kula-pavana's recent thread asking us how "low" we went in matters of personal conduct after leaving the ashrama life. I find the question of conduct "before and after" interesting, and several times I caught myself drafting a response in my mind. But each time I hold back. Because to respond freely, I would have to challenge the notion of "high" ashrama conduct and "low" conduct afterwards. And I don't think it's worth it, I don't think we could churn out something new and interesting by discussing it. And to respond to the substance of the question without addressing the "high / low" issue feels like buying into this paradigm.

Perhaps something similar may be at work with other members when they consider responding to things you write.

But just as likely it's pure coincidence! Spring vibes. Saturation with some topics and happily exploring others. Or one's comments getting buried under a pile of new stuff and thus getting forgotten. It happens even with conversations I am having with close friends where I know for sure they hold views similar to mine.

I have tried and got the same results as you -- i.e., no results. "SDG" doesn't work as a search keyword, the search engine has four letters specified as the shortest search word. "Satsvarupa" yielded nothing, for some reason. (Maybe we really never spelled out his name?) So instead I went through the likely subforums and found the thread here:

This must be the one you were looking for, right?

Dhyana, thanks for the reply. You bring up a lot of possibilities that help one understand the dynamics of forum postings. It was a worry, that once a person makes a passionate stand on an issue, that then the person becomes branded in some way. This is by and large a site for devotees who have left the movement, so if say you support or like the art and writings of a person like SDG, who is emblematic of ISKCON history in many ways, you may be putting yourself into a position of argument instead of discussion. I purposely quite posting on the SDG art thread after emptying my head as to why I liked that kind of art and tried to make amends with anyone I passionately debated or offended.

Your examples were great, concerning why you may consider not writing a response to certain members, whether it just be how the topic question is structured or not wanting to get into debates that may hurt feelings or bring up anger.

So many possibilities exist and not being a mind reader, why let paranoia destroy ya! It may be that this is a good online community full of smart funny diverse thinking people and one would not like to lose touch with it because of one strong passionate viewpoint.

Live and learn, post and boast, debate and relate, gaff and laugh, learn and churn, spiel and heal, type and gripe, spin and grin and lastly—never end to befriend! Thanx!
