I thought I was going to have to start a forum. Its strange how its totally do-able for me yet I actually kind of don't want to. I was telling my guy we need to put a bare breasted woman in a sari amongst other grand plans. Actually we need to work on really talking to people. I told him the forum would have the most strict moderation a Hare Krishna forum has ever seen. We would be a stiffing love cult. We would develop our members and expect our writing to recruit more. Later we would branch out into absolute free speech on a new forum. I kind of freaked out about the email from Brainiac because I at first thought it was a scam drawing us to a fake shell of a website to steal our password.. unless these guys are so great they got.. my PMs are there, it would have to be brilliant. I will feel better when Brainiac comes and he is not writing like a machine.. I am going to run 5 miles to Harvard Square and and by then my melatonin and stuff will have kicked in. I will ride the subway wearing my sunglasses and filling out the questionnaire my psychologist has been wanting me to complete. I am glad this forum is here. -------------------- Visit darwin on Twitter, Boston Poverty Law

Yeah, that was a bit of a scary wobble we had there. Thankfully it got resolved with ease. Phew!

Me too, I've lurked some really good discussions. Probably the least spaced out Vaisnava website i've seen. Just a shame its one of the slowest forums on earth. Cheers! You can help, though. Everyone can. if you know anyone who's a disaffected Vaishnava or who is even looking for some critical perspectives, feel free to invite them here. I've tried to do a lot of recruiting by advertising this forum at other forums/sites and stuff, but I don't know how effective it's been. Some people join but don't actually talk. I just wonder if it's something to do with declining forum culture? Where do people hang out these days apart from Facebook and such? -------------------- "I know not how I may seem to others, but to myself I am but a small child wandering the vast shores of knowledge, every now and then finding a small pebble to content myself with." ~~ Plato

I've tried to do a lot of recruiting by advertising this forum at other forums/sites and stuff, but I don't know how effective it's been.. We probably need to all get our own websites or blogs we can bring people to and then discuss it here. An interesting thing about me is that I had a forum before and have a real vision of the social dynamics involved. I see this forum and moderation as totally fine as the only actual open forum in the Hare Krishna world. There may be one more in Russian. The kalki issue just needs me and him to find time to talk on the phone and then maybe he does his issue(s) on his own topic. I do think the moderators here shouild have a separate account for moderation. You can use 2 browsers or get a cookie management browser add-on. I always found it a great joy and ego boost being Tony the moderator perfectly cool all the time. "I want to puke at the site and the stench of you" said one member. Another would email me pornography. And I would respond by counseling him nicely phrasing it like "..sending pornography to your moderator" (I just found some really cool Bengali porn by the way.) The Hare Krishna movement is supposed to be a joy or an obsession, dangerous and culty and crazy maybe but never boring. And its not just the disaffected who should be here. We need to get the new people or even make new devotees ourselves. And be hard line ISKCON conservative sometimes too likes its a fetish. -------------------- Visit darwin on Twitter, Boston Poverty Law

I see this forum and moderation as totally fine as the only actual open forum in the Hare Krishna world. There may be one more in Russian. Google Translate is getting really good. This is from this topic using a Chrome Browser with its translate: In the Hare Krishna sect, I was not long - since November 2009. to January 2012. But the penetration was very deep, sometimes there were periods when he was in the temple every day. Earlier this year, would be started if awakening from a dream. Began to see inconsistencies in the "scriptures" knowingly mistranslations and match anything and everything under the narrow sectarian concept. At first thought, maybe I was just dirty internally that is really all that I have come to see is false, and I need to clear.. ..Anyway, talking to me was the Hindus do not leave feeling they are like zombies. All respond the same way, similar phrases that are not their inner experience, and suddenly, and fanatically adopted, after the Hare Krishnas heard or read it somewhere. Eventually issues was not one, but hundreds. At first it seemed a slender consistent and firm "doctrine" was falling apart like a house of cards.. What happens when a former Hare Krishna tries to return to the real world? -------------------- Visit darwin on Twitter, Boston Poverty Law

Is there an official gaudiya repercussions facebook page? maybe that will pull people in. Tapati had an FB group page way back when, but there was even less participation there than there is here. How would it work, though? I can only imagine posting things like, for example, "Nice contribution from Kalisurfer in this ongoing discussion about schnitzel" (or whatever), or "Have a laugh at Babu's latest joke in x thread". Things like that. Or do you mean it to be some kind of social group? Because that might work, but that was basically what Tapati did too... Back at Square One.... -------------------- "I know not how I may seem to others, but to myself I am but a small child wandering the vast shores of knowledge, every now and then finding a small pebble to content myself with." ~~ Plato
